CAUSES FOR CONCERN (click on title on new page)

  1. What does self - enhancing bias mean?

  2. Report your results from this experiment.

  3. Did your results follow a pattern?  Explain your answer.

  4. If results did follow a pattern, do you think you were demonstrating self-enhancement or do you believe you really are more socially concerned than others?

  5. Why do you think so many people show the self-enhancement phenomenon?

  6. What are the pros and cons of this behaviour?

HOW ANXIOUS ARE YOU?

  1. Report your score.  What percentile did it fall in?  What does your percentile rank mean? (statistically speaking)

  2. If you scored high on the ranking, do you feel you are overreacting to events in your life, or do you think things are happening in your life that justify an unusual amount of anxiety?

  3. If you scored low on the ranking, what coping mechanisms do you exercise to handle stress?

  4. What is the psychological difference between "normal" and "abnormal"?  This is not an opinion question.

SHY BONES (select Shyness Inventory)

  1. Define the term reliability & validity.  Check your textbook for answers.

  2. Now that you know the PSYCHOLOGICAL definitions of reliability and validity - evaluate this test.  How valid and reliable is this test? Present reasons to support your evaluation.

  3. Record your results.  According to the test, how concerned are you about your shyness?

  4. How do people define shyness?

  5. What and who makes you shy?

  6. How can shyness be reduced?

WHAT PROVOKES YOU? (select What Provokes You)

  1. What is the test called?

  2. Report what situations make you the most angry.

  3. Report what situations make you the most hurt.

  4. What does standard deviation mean?

  5. Where does your score fall in relation to the standard deviation of the test?

  6. Looking at the study, why do you think women reported more hurtful situations?

  7. What did the test show about the order of the questions? (e.g., hurt, anger)  Do you think this order influenced your score?  Explain your answer.

TYPE A BEHAVIOR

  1. Summarize your score in your own words.

  2. Do you prefer to change the behaviour for the questions you answered "yes"?

  3. Do you behave in Type A in some settings. but type B in others?

  4. What is it about the environment that causes certain styles of behavior?

  5. In general, is it easier for women to display behaviors that are more traditionally masculine than it is for men to display traditionally feminine behaviors?
